Interactive Computer Skills Workshop for Shishu Niketan Students at IIBM

An event on World Literacy Day 2024 was conducted at the IIBM Lab for students of classes 4th, 5th, and 6th from Shishu Niketan, running from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event aimed to introduce young learners to essential computer skills and familiarize them with basic digital tools and concepts. This event was designed to provide students with a foundational understanding of computers that they could use in their daily lives and future educational pursuits.

The session began by teaching the students from Shishu Niketan the basics of how to properly operate a computer. This included instructions on how to turn a computer on and off, as well as guidelines on how to use the computer safely and efficiently in everyday scenarios. Next, the students were introduced to Microsoft Paint, where they engaged in creative activities by drawing and experimenting with the tool. Following this, they were given a brief introduction to Microsoft Word, focusing on how to create and format simple documents. The students were also taught about various storage devices, such as hard drives, USBs, CDs, and cloud storage, to help them understand how data is stored and accessed.

In addition to this, the students were introduced to coding languages. While the introduction was kept at a basic level, students were given an overview of languages like HTML, Python, and Scratch to spark their interest in the world of programming. The purpose of this introduction was to familiarize them with the idea of coding and its growing importance in today’s technology-driven world.

To make the event more interactive, we organized fun activities, including a Q&A session. The students participated enthusiastically, answering questions about the different parts of the computer, identifying storage devices, and applying their newfound skills in MS Paint and MS Word.

After the event concluded, snacks were distributed to all the students as a gesture of appreciation for their participation. We also collected feedback to better understand their experience and evaluate the effectiveness of the event. The students expressed a keen interest in continuing to learn more about computers, especially in exploring more advanced coding languages and applications in future sessions.

Overall, the event was a great success. It provided the students of Shishu Niketan with valuable knowledge while making the learning process enjoyable and interactive. The combination of educational content and fun activities helped the students build a strong foundation in digital literacy, ensuring they left the event more confident in their ability to use computers.
